Low Tech Rights #3 - Paper Homework

No obligation for a child to carry out screen-based homework

Children are already spending excessive hours each day interacting via screens.

Additional assignments that require submission on a digital screen-based device, after school, invite distraction and exposure to harmful content just at the time in the day when they need to decompress, remove distraction, re-focus and embrace self directed learning tasks.

Under Article 8 of the Human Rights Act, families, including adults and children, have a right to a family life and private life free from imposition by government, media organisations or device manufacturers.

If families choose to have device-free time at home as an expression of their culture and identity this must be respected under the provisions of the act.
