Low Tech Rights #1 - Time Limits

A 1 hour-a-day screen time limit on school devices, (max 2hrs in late secondary) in line with medical guidance

In the years since the start of the pandemic, screen use by children has increased dramatically - to the point that children today are spending on average 6-9 hours a day interacting purely on screen devices.

The physical damage associated simply with repetitive strain, eye strain, sleep disruption and sedentary behaviour, which also contributes to already high rates of childhood obesity, are well evidenced and cannot be ignored.

The latest guidance from GPs published by Health Professionals for Safer Screens, and communicated to practitioners in medical opinion via The Royal College of General Practitioners recommends a maximum limit of 1-2 hours per day for children in total.

Right

Parents have a right to know how much sedentary screen time their child is being exposed to in school so that they can set meaningful moderations and limits for recreational screen use at home.
